ADULTS INDEPENDENT AND MOTIVATED

AIMers live ordinary lives, which is really quite extraordinary

Adults Independent and Motivated (AIM) is a community of active adults who have disabilities such as autism and Down syndrome and live independently, with appropriate support, in the Lakeway/Bee Cave area.

AIM does not own an apartment complex nor provide housing.  AIM is a radically different model in which AIMers live in a regular apartment alongside neighbors who don’t have disabilities and are not part of the AIM program.

Indeed, AIMers have achieved a level of independence that most of their parents never dreamed possible.  AIM accomplishes this by providing transportation to work and AIM activities; learning activities; social opportunities; a framework resembling an extended family for participants due to the cooperation among all parents; and sustainability so this can be AIMers’ long-term home.

AIMers have remarkably ordinary adult lives.  They go to work, take care of their apartments, spend time with friends, and enjoy fitness and recreational activities.  Given the challenges presented by their disabilities, however, achieving such ordinary lives is really quite extraordinary.
